Actually, Taiwan belongs as much to Japan as it does to China. The Quing Dynasty ceded Taiwan to the Empire of Japan in 1895, and the island industrialised and developed agriculture as a Japanese colony. In the 17th century, Taiwan belonged to the Dutch. True, a Han population began to settle there, starting in the 13th century. No doubt China will take over Taiwan as the US is too weak to stop it. But the Chinese threat is greatly exaggerated. When the Japanese bought Rockefeller Centre, everybody said it was going to be the next superpower. China sits on a demographic time bomb, a debt crisis and it's dictatorship is well past it's "sell by" date.
