Trump Hatred Syndrome poisoned the Republican Party some time ago, and the Bush faction is keeping it alive. I know the family and its unworthy of them for, after all, the last one they ran was not at all keen and his wife was even less. They really should rest on their laurels. But the mess reminds one that in America (and maybe elsewhere) politics has become a branch of show business. Biden looked like a well dressed and well groomed everyone's favourite uncle. No one took account of his appalling record of incompetence and miss judgement in a long career as a political hack. Americans don't elect policies - they elect personalities. Trump's appearance and manner put off even those educated folk who should not be prone to such superficial sentiments. Those ignorant of history may not remember that Churchill Hatred Syndrome was prevalent in the British establishment pre war. He had jumped the political aisle - like Trump, and was seen as pompous, self centred and obsessed with a German threat. What's the solution? A Trump/Haley ticket unlikely, as is Trump/ de Santis. It may not be ego driving Trump's intentions for '24. He is bitter about the loss of his legacy. If Haley can convince him she will be its custodian and promoter, he might be persuaded to step aside and concentrate on endorsing candidates. Someone should work on his family as well. Trump's place in history is assured. The last thing he should want to be is the Democrat's only asset for '24. Haley is certainly the strongest successor by a good margin
