Our esteemed pundit is so right. The Democratic Party was the do-good party. It was the party of liberal ideals - using the term "liberal" in its correct but now outdated sense. It feared monopolistic tendencies in big business and pointed out its abuses; it sought to protect minorities and did not exploit and patronise them for cynical gain. But that party is no longer. It has been captured by a fascistic element. How did this happen? I have seen no credible explanation. And why are its former, traditional members so silent? Perhaps they are still in shock.
