Why Advance Conservative Values?
I changed this blog’s title because some readers confused nationist (one who believes in national states) with nationalist (one who believes in his nation over others). In fact, one Texan (you know who you are) emailed weekly accusing me of myriad alt-right istophobias. Oh, what a fool believes. After two years of publishing, it should be obvious I am advancing values that could have as easily come from Winston Churchill as Ronald Reagan or George Will.
Conservatism gets a bad rap in today’s mainstream media, who too often portray conservatives as anachronistic and hateful (the so-called basket of deplorables). That is as sad as Hillary Clinton’s belief that identity politics could defeat a plan to boost the economy (say, to 4.2% GDP growth) or secure national safety. Personally, I think Hillary Clinton with that goofy re-set button personified deplorable.
Since when did preserving the traditions of the Reformation and Enlightenment become deplorable? The civilized world is at a tipping point because it is on-boarding 1.2 billion Chinese into our free-market economy and over 1 billion Muslims into our advanced and tolerant societies. It is folly to suggest it will all work out if we allow China to steal western intellectual property or adopt any part of sharia (law).
It is absurd to attack Anglo-American civility as some fanciful name for white supremacy. Yes, we should continue speaking English in America. Not to create a barrier to Mexicans, but because it is the language of Shakespeare, Hemingway and The Rolling Stones. By the way, I will apologize for my admiration of England's and America's contributions to the world when Iranians and Venezuelans stop using Google and the Edison light bulb!
Conservatives want to hold onto the essence of Anglo-American educational traditions, where universities prepare students to succeed in an unknown (yet wonderful) tomorrow by insisting students don’t reject today what they don’t understand (like jobs created by invested capital). Conservatives believe a "liberal" education should produce self-regulating citizens, who don’t require nanny-state restrictions on one’s property and freedom.
Conservatives know life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness require a government willing to do whatever is necessary to defend it from foreign (China) and domestic (deep state) threats. We know the USA is a constitutional republic with 50 distinct states that are self-regulating to meet the needs of their residents. We understand a democracy and free elections only work when everyone accepts the outcome until the next election. Above all, we want to conserve the system of Anglo-American justice: where personal privacy matters and innocence is presumed until proven guilty by a jury of one’s peers.
Conservatives understand the best way to protect diversity is by supporting family, community and sectarian traditions. Jewish families must be free to celebrate bar mitzvahs. Boston Irish must be free to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Black Southern Baptists must be free to display a Nativity scene on their church lawn. Conservatives don’t just tolerate the American “melting pot” - we celebrate it. By the way, who are these bah-humbug people that are offended by the traditions of their neighbors?
And so...the Conservative Guardian wants to preserve what makes America special by calling out the intellectual dishonesty of so-called liberals, who would make us all wards of the state to the strains of It’s a Small World After All. When Sanders and Warren choose equality over opportunity - Bam! When Harvard chooses political correctness over brilliant Asians - Pow! When Obama and Kerry choose Iran over Israel - Wallop! The Spirit of 76 is alive and well on this site!
